12 Young Ambassadors involved in second level (or higher) education including teachers, trainee teachers or lecturers aged 18 – 25 will be selected through the Friends Organisation and agreed by the Agencies. They will be flown to Northern Ireland where they will spend 3 weeks of Summer 2008. Each will develop their own cultural assignment from a short agreed list during this time as they volunteer at a number of events and festivals from both traditions, be briefed by political parties, visit cultural sites and experience the cross community and reconciliation work being done by the Saint Patrick Centre and other organisations. Some of this activity will be tailor-made to the interests of the Young Ambassadors. Cultural assignments will be finalised on return to the USA and presented to the Friends and the Agencies. A reception will be organised in Washington DC and those involved will be brought here to be formally adopted as Young Ambassadors.
